Start of the new year

As September is getting closer, it’s time for the first Cover newsletter of the new year. We hope you’ve had a great vacation and enjoy the last week of it. We look forward to seeing you soon!

To all first-year students: we’d hereby like to welcome you to Cover. Cover is the study association for Artificial Intelligence and Computing Science at the University of Groningen. We help you during your studies and organize great activities. We look forward to getting to know you and having a great time together!

Cheers,
The board and candidate board of Cover

BIT (BIT of Introductory Time)

BIT is a period with activities in September to get to know the ins and outs of studying and student life. In groups of 8 first-years, led by 2 older students, you can visit various activities. You get to know lots of people and make new friends. While participation in BIT and the activities is voluntary, it does give you a head start with your studies and student life! Check bit.svcover.nl for more info and registration.

To senior students: would you like to lead a BIT group to help first-years get to know Cover? Then sign up on bit.svcover.nl! You can sign up with someone else if you’d like to lead a group together.

After a long summer break it is time to return to university. Do you have some crazy holiday stories? Share them with us at our first monthly borrel (drinking night) of the year! For the freshmen: this is your chance to get in touch with the senior members of Cover!

Announcements

It’s time to order your books

The holidays are nearing their end, which means that you will have to order your books again. As usual, you can order them with us at www.svcover.nl/boeken.php.

If you are a first-year student and wish to pick up your books at the CACHE (Cover room), you will have to order them this weekend. If you order in time, you will receive your books during the introductory day. If you forget to order your books, or wish to order them at a later time, you can only have them delivered at your home.

If you are a first-year students who wishes to have their books delivered at home, or an older year student, you can order for a while longer. However, as is usual, if you order your books later than the start of the term, it may take a while before they arrive. The sooner you order, the earlier your books will arrive at your doorstep.

Looking for ComExA members

As the future Commissioner of External Affairs I would like to continue the ComExA in its current form. The goal of the ComExA is to support the Commissioner of External Affairs in approaching interesting AI and CS related companies with the aim of acquiring partnership in one form or another. Partnership is naturally very important for the continuity of our association and for it to be able to organize activities.

As a member you’ll get the chance to get to know a company, visit and speak with them, possibly negotiate a deal and maybe even find a Bachelor/Master project or a job. Does this interest you, then do not hesitate to send an email to extern@svcover.nl. Interviews will take place in the first week of September.

Looking for FoodCee members

Cover is looking for new committee members for the FoodCee! Do you want to make sure there’s always enough food and drinks in the CACHE for our hungry and thirsty members? Then apply by sending a mail to intern@svcover.nl.
