Week review

This week we had the [CAREER] Belsimpel: First Year Coding Challenge which was a smashing succes! We had a lot of first years showing up for the challenge and the coding exercises were fun! The beer and pizza provided by Belsimpel along with the very nice people that work there topped off the activity.

Don't forget to buy an ugly Christmas sweater for the next social, bonus points if you have lights in it!

Ugly Christmas Sweater Social

It's holiday season! It's getting colder and colder, and t-shirts and tops are changed for sweaters. This social you can wear your prettiest ugly Christmas sweater. The whole social is Christmas themed, be on time and get your free beers and a free Christmas hat!

TAD-talk: How NLP can help Festimap

Thursday 14th of December, 16:00 till 18:00, Cover room

Festimap is a brand new startup from Groningen founded by two Software Engineering-students from the Hanzehogeschool. They created a webapplication that allows you to find parties, performances and festivals easily. Nearby events can be seen on the map and filters give the possibility to search for specific genres and price ranges.

The subject of this TAD-Talk is how NLP could be used to improve Festimap's application.

Committee Assembly

The committee assembly will be organised once more. All chairmen and treasurers are urged to come. In case neither can make it to the assembly, make sure to have at least another member of the committee is present to represent the committee.

We will be discussing the budget, so if you wish to modify your yearly budget, this is the time and place to do so. Furthermore we will be discussing the rescheduling and/or cancellation of activities, and the new additions committee manual.

There will be a couple of drinks to conclude the assembly.

Let the academic advisor and fellow students inform you about the options you have to plan your Bachelor program.

We will discuss your compulsory program, practical and elective courses, going abroad, minor options, Masters, etc. Senior students will share their experiences with the practical and elective courses, to help you choose and plan your own programme.

Map Your AI Study Programme

In december this year's version of Map your AI study programme will be organised. Did you enjoy this event last year, or felt it was useful? Do you want to tell the current second year students what your study programme looks like? Or maybe just convey your enthusiasm about your courses? Sign up as a speaker for this year by sending a mail to education@svcover.nl, or approach the board in person!

BEST is looking for a new board

Do you want to work alongside 96 boards in Europe? Do you want to travel, gain experience while studying full time? BEST Groningen is looking for new board members to start in December. Doing a board at BEST is only part time and it takes about 3-4 hours a week, some weeks more, some weeks less. Interested, email the current board at bestgroningen@gmail.com!"

StudCee

Do you like helping your fellow students? Are you good at explaining things? The StudCee organises study support for all the Artificial Intelligence and Computing Science students. A first year computing scientist would really complete their ranks, but anyone is welcome!
