Sinterklaas is coming to Cover!

Dear members,

It is almost Sinterklaas! I hope you have your presents and good moods ready. If not, Cover will assist you in the coming month. Come visit us in the Cover room to see what that means... Also, we have quite some events for you this week!

Join Schoenzetten, a Sinterklaas tradition coming Tuesday, where children (of all ages) leave their shoe next to the fireplace so Sinterklaas can fill it with presents and candy over night. The process is very simple and you can find more information on the website!

Are you curious what is going on in a brewery? Then this is your chance: Join us on the tour at Gronings Baxbier brewery and beer tasting. We will have the tour first, then we will have 3 different special beers. Afterwards there is time to have some more drinks. Find more info and sign up here.

Meet the Researchers is an opportunity to engage with various researchers within the AI and CS departments. Each researcher will give a small introduction about how they got onto their field and a small presentation about their research to inspire your interest in the various fields within AI and CS. The event will conclude with a small borrel. Get more info here.

All the best,

Max

Nice to know!

Liquid democracy: is a proxy voting method where proxies are delegable: individual A may delegate her vote to B, who in turn may delegate it to C and so on. Ultimately, an individual’s vote carries the weight given by the number of other individuals who (directly or indirectly) entrusted her as proxy. Liquid democracy has been used and popularised by a number of parties (e.g, the Piratenpartei in Germany, the Demoex Party in Sweden), associations and grassroots initiatives for democratic reforms (e.g., Interaktive Demokratie, Liquid US, Democracy Earth Foundation). Yet little scientific work exists on it. In this talk Davide Grossi will present recent work aiming at providing theoretical foundations for this novel voting method from the perspective of social choice theory, network theory, and game theory. It is on Tuesday, December 4, 15:00 – 16:00 in Bernoulliborg, room 289.

Map your AI Study Program: On Tuesday 11th December there will be a presentation given by older year students for 2nd and 3rd years about what electives are on offer in the AI degree programme. This is in partnership with the Academic Advisor. If you are an older year student who is interested in giving a small talk about some of the electives that you have taken please contact education@svcover.nl.

We want you to be in a committee!

Here is a cool thingy for our new members: Ever heard of a committee? A committee is a group of friends that work towards a common goal. You can learn about all sorts of topics such as budgeting, planning, sponsoring, and much more! See the website for a complete overview of committees that are looking for members! If you want to apply for a committee please email intern@svcover.nl. A resume or motivation is optional, so feel free to just tell him you are interested!
