The (very) first letter...

First of all, I’d like to welcome all of our new members! I hope everyone has had a good summer break and is ready to get back to studying and all the nice things that come with it. The Cover Room will be open every weekday from September 2nd onwards again, so I hope to see you there and hear all about your summer stories!

JoeJoe,

Marieke

In the first September week, we do ...

Also starting on Septeber 2nd is the Kick-off week for all new first-year AI and CS students. During this week, Cover also organizes some events starting off with the Barbecue on Wednesday. This barbecue is free for all first-years but please sign up beforehand through here. We close this day with a Come-back Social down in the city-centre, where you can enjoy some free beers and show all the new dance moves you’ve learned this summer.

On Thursday, there will be a Thursday Afternoon Drinks (TAD) in the Cover Room where you can relax and get to know even more Cover members! Just come and join us for a chat and a drink! We are in Bernoulliborg 0041a.

This year’s IntroCamp is around the corner and it’s gonna be ZOOper! All first-years are encouraged to join us, so if you haven’t signed up yet you can do that through their website. Are you a senior Cover member and want to help the IntroCee during the camp? Then you can also sign up and experience an amazing camp all over again. Visit introcee.svcover.nl for details and to register!

We want you to be in a committee!

A committee is a group of friends that work towards a common goal. You can learn about all sorts of topics such as budgeting, planning, sponsoring, and much more! See the website for a complete overview of committees that are looking for members!

SympoCee: A symposium is a big event consisting of multiple speakers and activities surrounding a topic. Have you enjoyed events like the SNiC or the Career Day? Then, organising a symposium might be just right for you! You will learn many life skills, like how it is to find speakers and how the finances behind a big event like this work, and of course, how it is to work within a group of other students. The SympoCee is the committee that organises this symposium every year.

ExCee: This committee organises a multi-city trip for usually more than a week! Joining this committee means to design and plan for the perfect trip for you and your fellow members. You decide on where to go and how to spend the money. You will experience how it is to work towards an extraordinarily rewarding experience, while making friends on the go. For more information and inspiration check out the website of the previous ExCee (Excursion Committee).

MxCee: Similiarly to the ExCee, the MxCee (Mega Excursion Committee) organises a trip spanning cities, countries and (sometimes) continents! Is organising an ExCee too easy for you? Then you might want to consider joining this committee: a trip that is longer, farther and more expensive!

Language Buddy Committee: This new committee will be all about getting international students familiarized with Groningen and the Dutch culture. The buddies, who are members of this committee, are organizing several events for their international first-year students throughout the first year. Coupled with university-class Dutch lessons for the international students, this will enable first-years to put those freshly-learned Dutch phrases into action together with their buddies. Are you a Dutch student and would you like to show someone around in Groningen? Please consider joining the Language Buddy Committee!

Nice to know

De Wereld Draait Door: We have been invited to attend the talkshow ‘De Wereld Draait Door’ and maybe you are interested in going! The night will start at 17:45 with a welcoming by the host, Matthijs van Nieuwkerk after which there will be a pre-show, usually a band giving a mini concert. From 19:00-20:00 the live show will be broadcasted after which we can have a drink in the Mediacafe. The entire show will unfortunately be in Dutch, and will be in the Westergas in Amsterdam. If you are interested, please let us know by signing up through this link!
