Birthday countdown!

Only 7 nights of sleep before we can celebrate our birthday! Upcoming Friday, September 20th, Cover will turn 26 so the board has prepared a surprise in the CoverRoom from 16.00 onwards! Afterwards we'll have dinner together at the Pannekoekenschip (Schuitendiep 1017), for which you can enroll here. The price will be €12,50 for an unlimited amount of pancakes which you can decorate yourself!

Also this week, Abbey Games will visit us! Join us on Tuesday at 13.00 to learn more about their new game Godhood, the game engine they built for it and game AI in general!

JoeJoe,

Marieke

We want you to be in a committee!

Here is a cool thingy for our new members: Ever heard of a committee? A committee is a group of friends that work towards a common goal. You can learn about all sorts of topics such as budgeting, planning, sponsoring, and much more! See the website for a complete overview of committees that are looking for members! If you want to apply for a committee or have any questions regarding committees please send an email to our commissioner of internal affairs.

Complaints Committee: The board is looking for people who would like to join the Complaints Committee! Do you feel eager to help resolve conflicts within the association whilst staying as objective as possible? Maybe you'd be interested in joining this committee! If you're interested or have any questions, please send an e-mail to the board.

Language Buddy Committee: This new committee will be all about getting international students familiarized with Groningen and the Dutch culture. The buddies, who are members of this committee, are organizing several events for their international first-year students throughout the first year. Coupled with university-class Dutch lessons for the international students, this will enable first-years to put those freshly-learned Dutch phrases into action together with their buddies. Are you a Dutch student and would you like to show someone around in Groningen? Please consider joining the Language Buddy Committee!

SympoCee: A symposium is a big event consisting of multiple speakers and activities surrounding a topic. Have you enjoyed events like the SNiC or the Career Day? Then, organising a symposium might be just right for you! You will learn many life skills, like how it is to find speakers and how the finances behind a big event like this work, and of course, how it is to work within a group of other students. The SympoCee is the committee that organises this symposium every year.

ExCee: This committee organises a multi-city trip for usually more than a week! Joining this committee means to design and plan for the perfect trip for you and your fellow members. You decide on where to go and how to spend the money. You will experience how it is to work towards an extraordinarily rewarding experience, while making friends on the go. For more information and inspiration check out the website of the previous ExCee (Excursion Committee).

MxCee: Similiarly to the ExCee, the MxCee (Mega Excursion Committee) organises a trip spanning cities, countries and (sometimes) continents! Is organising an ExCee too easy for you? Then you might want to consider joining this committee: a trip that is longer, farther and more expensive!

Nice to know

Benelux Algorithm Programming Contest: The Benelux Algorithm Programming Contest (BAPC) is a contest in which teams of three try to solve as many algorithmic programming problems as possible within the five hour time limit (think of e.g. variants of breadth first search, Dijkstra’s, and more creative algorithms). Submissions are automatically tested by a judge system and the standings are displayed live on an exciting scoreboard. Top teams from every university may advance to the Northwestern Europe Regional Contest. Supported languages include C(++), Java and Python. Everything on the day itself is provided for except travel expenses, but your university might subsidize this. This year’s BAPC will take place in Nijmegen and more information can be found at the website. Please send an email to info@bapc.eu on 22 September at the latest if you want to participate, as there are no preliminaries held in Groningen.

Knaek: Maybe you've never heard of it, maybe you've always wanted one, this is your opportunity to receive a free Knaek pas! A Knaek pas is a student-only pas which gives you discounts al around the city. At restaurants shops, bars and many more locations. You can use this pas infinately many times throughout the whole year. Interested? Pick yours up at the Cover Room, but be quick because there is only a limited amount!
