Happy birthday!

Today we've turned 26! To celebrate this we had invited 'the valsspeler' (a.k.a. 'the cheater') who taught us some awesome card tricks and enjoyed some cake! Afterwards we went for dinner at Het Pannekoekenschip and all decorated our very own pancakes.

Next week we'll say our thank-you's to board XXVII and hopefully change to the new board! If you've never attended a general assembly, this is where we discuss the future of the association and discuss important topics. This edition, the constitutional general assembly, we will change boards which is considered the most fun general assembly of the whole year, so feel free to join!

JoeJoe,

Marieke

We want you to be in a committee!

Here is a cool thingy for our new members: Ever heard of a committee? A committee is a group of friends that work towards a common goal. You can learn about all sorts of topics such as budgeting, planning, sponsoring, and much more! See the website for a complete overview of committees that are looking for members! If you want to apply for a committee or have any questions regarding committees please send an email to our commissioner of internal affairs.

ComExA: ComExA stands for Committee of External Affairs. This committee supports the commissioner of external affairs by making and keeping contact with companies. This is important for both the members and the association. Cover needs sponsorship to do all kind of awesome things. You get the chance to get to know a company and maybe even find a company for a final project or for a job!

Language Buddy Committee: This new committee will be all about getting international students familiarized with Groningen and the Dutch culture. The buddies, who are members of this committee, are organizing several events for their international first-year students throughout the first year. Coupled with university-class Dutch lessons for the international students, this will enable first-years to put those freshly-learned Dutch phrases into action together with their buddies. Are you a Dutch student and would you like to show someone around in Groningen? Please consider joining the Language Buddy Committee!

MxCee: Similiarly to the ExCee, the MxCee (Mega Excursion Committee) organises a trip spanning cities, countries and (sometimes) continents! Is organising an ExCee too easy for you? Then you might want to consider joining this committee: a trip that is longer, farther and more expensive!

ExCee: This committee organises a multi-city trip for usually more than a week! Joining this committee means to design and plan for the perfect trip for you and your fellow members. You decide on where to go and how to spend the money. You will experience how it is to work towards an extraordinarily rewarding experience, while making friends on the go. For more information and inspiration check out the website of the previous ExCee (Excursion Committee).

Nice to know

Benelux Algorithm Programming Contest: The Benelux Algorithm Programming Contest (BAPC) is a contest in which teams of three try to solve as many algorithmic programming problems as possible within the five hour time limit (think of e.g. variants of breadth first search, Dijkstra’s, and more creative algorithms). Submissions are automatically tested by a judge system and the standings are displayed live on an exciting scoreboard. Top teams from every university may advance to the Northwestern Europe Regional Contest. Supported languages include C(++), Java and Python. Everything on the day itself is provided for except travel expenses, but your university might subsidize this. This year’s BAPC will take place in Nijmegen and more information can be found at the website. Please send an email to info@bapc.eu on 22 September at the latest if you want to participate, as there are no preliminaries held in Groningen.

Knaek: Maybe you've never heard of it, maybe you've always wanted one, this is your opportunity to receive a free Knaek pas! A Knaek pas is a student-only pas which gives you discounts al around the city. At restaurants shops, bars and many more locations. You can use this pas infinately many times throughout the whole year. Interested? Pick yours up at the Cover Room, but be quick because there is only a limited amount!
