Applications for Board XXX are open!

Heey all,

It's this time of the year again: Cover is looking for a new Board! That doesn't mean that people got tired of us (though I don't exclude this possibility). We just need new people to keep it interesting. If you are interested in helping AI/CS/HMC students to make the most out of their study years, consider becoming part of the 30th Board of Cover! Feel free to contact individual (former) Board Members and members of the Board of Advisors to discuss this opportunity! Apply now!

Ah, one more thing: There are a couple of events for those curious about a Board Year! Namely, there is a Board Q&A, a Board Interest Night and an Open Board Meeting! Click on the event titles to find out more!

We, of course, also have a bunch of other activities coming up! Next Tuesday, we are discussing the results that came from the Member Research! These have been presented in January as well, but it's now time to have a proper brainstorm to see what can come from them.

The ZiuZ Lunch Lecture is also coming up! If you are interested in learning more about computer vision, join! If you are fast enough, you can even earn a free sandwich that will be delivered to your doorstep!

On the same day there will be a Rocket League tournament as well, organised by our lovely LCDee! The committee is also looking for members, so this is a great opportunity to see what they are usually working on!

There are also a bunch of awesome study support sessions as usual, and the first bootcamp! This newsletter is already super long, so just click the links under the agenda!

Toedeloe,

Leo

P.S. wow so many things going on I can barely handle it.

We want you to be in a committee!

A committee is a group of friends that work towards a common goal. You can learn about all sorts of topics such as budgeting, planning, sponsoring, and much more! See the website for a complete overview of committees that are looking for members!

LCDee: Is it your life-long dream to make every inch of your room RGB? Are you a real pro gamer? Come pwn some noobs in the LCDee!

Are you interested in joining a committee? Don't hesitate to contact Amber, our Commissioner of Internal Affairs!

Nice to know

1st DataDump Experiment!: Are masks doing wonders for our looks, besides helping to battle COVID-19? This is what we want to uncover in our first experiment, and we need your help to set it up! Make a picture of yourself, preferably on a white background and with adequate lighting. Only include your head in the picture, and try to keep a neutral expression. Make a second picture in the same way, but now with a standard blue surgical mask on. Send the pictures to +351 913 989 441, and include your age and gender. The data gathered in the experiment will be anonymised, and no statements will be made about individual attractiveness ratings.

Interested in Voice Technology?: On Tuesday 6 April 2021 Campus Fryslân is hosting an online event about Voice Technology together with study associations Cover and Twist. Dr. Matt Coler will open the event with an overview of the MSc. Voice Technology programme. The headline speaker, Daan van Esch (Google) will then give a talk entitled “Building Language Technology for Everyone”.

Online Master’s Week: Online open days are the perfect opportunity to find out more about the University of Groningen's Master’s programmes, our academic community, and life as a UG student. Register now for the Online Master's Week from 22 to 26 March 2021. If you are unable to follow a particular presentation live during the event, don't panic. We will record as many presentations as possible and make them available via this site for two weeks after the Online Master's Week has ended.
