Drinks and Cuddles

Hello and welcome to this week's Newsletter,

Last week we had a great start into the new block with the Coffee Morning, Sit Down Social, and more. This week, we will continue this, starting it off with the first lecture from the Machine Learning Fortnight. This one is the Introduction to Recommender Systems. Then on Friday, there is a lecture on NLP in Recommender Systems. If you are interested in Machine Learning and want to challenge yourself or just learn something new, this is a good place to be.

On Wednesday we have a borrellezing lecture on Deep Learning, Satellite Images and Mario Kart for smart, frequent and uniform monitoring organized by Spheer.ai. They are developing a satellite-AI framework that automatically and scalably inspects various types of terrain to provide information for policymakers, effect analysts, terrain managers, and enforcers.

Then we will have a TAD bit of fun and a TAD bit of free drinks and snacks and cuddles. You may have guessed it, but we will have another TAD this week on Thursday at 16:00. Bring in your cutest teddy bear to show them off to everyone and enjoy the huge dose of dopamine you'll get just by being in the Cover Room.

Finally, StudCee needs your help to give Bismark von Panzerowl (aka Dr. Hoot) a revamp... Join the Owl Design Competition for a chance to be featured on their famous mugs! Who knows? Maybe you will get the chance to get your very own mug with the winning designs! The deadline is the 12th of January.

Auf Wiedersehen, Jellybean!

Cast and Crew call from GUTS!

‘Where the Sun Slumbers’ is a play about parents, choices, and people giving a damn. Although the play has its roots in greek mythology, on the way to the stage it also picked up a kick-ass industrial aesthetic, some sassy fates, and a story all its own.

It will be put on in June 2024 by the Groningen University Theatre Society (GUTS), and we're still looking for a cast and crew to help bring it to life.

A short synopsis: The great machine keeps the island alive. It winds its way through soil and stone like veins, filtering the water and revitalising the fields. However, when the machine fails, and with it the island’s frail ecosystem, the rule of King Minos is tested…and found lacking. It is up to an unlikely few to delve into the heart of the machine and fix what is broken.

Sign up for the auditions and crew talks here.

Happy Tail Syndrome

Did you know, dogs can actually damage their tail by wagging it too much. Happy tail syndrome is a condition where dogs cause damage to the tip of their tails from striking surfaces.
