The First Snow ❄️

Hello lovely people,

I have exciting news! The first snow came early this year! Time to build snow figures, have snowball fights, and sledge down the roof of LB ⛄

We are starting the week off with a General Assembly. This is a meeting to which every member is invited to discuss the future and current state of the association. If you are new to the association this is a great place to get more involved and find out about how it works internally.

If the weather is making you feel cozy, you will feel right at home with the Hot Cocoa TAD. How gezellig ☕ Of course hot chocolate is not going to be the only beverage we will serve. You can get your free drinks as usual.

Right after the TAD, we can head up to the lecture hall together to enjoy a collaborative talk on AI Art. This is a special collaboration together with IK, the study association for Arts, Culture and Media. The speakers will be Marco Zullich, a professor specializing in generative AI, and Leonardo Beltran, who wrote about AI art for his PhD.

And finally, it is time for a little competition, battles from friends to friends, mentor to mentee. Get your team ready and prepare for loads of fun in the upcoming Futsal Tournament.

That's it from me for this week. See you soon!

Auf Wiedersehen, Jellybean!

We want you to be in a committee!

⚠️ Here is a cool thingy for our new members: Ever heard of a committee? A committee is a group of friends that work towards a common goal. You can learn about all sorts of topics such as budgeting, planning, sponsoring, and much more! See the website for a complete overview of committees that are looking for members!

Join the SNiC 2025 Committee! Cover, in collaboration with ASCI, is considering a bid to organize the prestigious SNiC (Stichting Nationaal Informatica Congres) for 2025, and we need your enthusiasm and skills to make it happen! SNiC is an annual, high-profile congress in the Netherlands, focused on computer science and related fields. It’s a fantastic platform for learning, networking, and exploring the latest in computer science. This committee is a long-term commitment, lasting until November 2025. This is more than just an event; it’s a chance to contribute to a significant part of the computer science community in the Netherlands. You’ll gain invaluable experience, meet incredible people, and make lasting contributions to our field at a national level. You can find more info on the event, the committee, and the roles within the committee here.

Are you interested in joining a committee? Don't hesitate to contact Luca, our Commissioner of Internal Affairs!

Confidential Advisors

We have three confidential advisors in Cover. They are a listening ear for members to talk about stress, problems within the association or personal struggles. You can find more info on how to contact them and on mental well-being on our well-being page.

The crows of Sendai

In Sendai, Japan, you can find a special group of crows. Since their beaks are not strong enough to open a walnut, they had to come up with a solution to crack them. They started using the traffic. The birds wait for the right moment to place their nut precisely at pedestrian crossings on the road. When the lights turn green the cars run over the nuts cracking them open. What is important is that the birds learned to wait for the lights to turn red again. Only then do they hop onto the road and pick up their opened nut without the danger of being run over by the traffic.
