Drinking, Driving, and DancingHello everyone!
Tabea is still on holiday, so I'll be taking over again today. I know I said last week you'll get her back next time, but I guess I was mistaken! We've got quite a fun week ahead, dominated by the Gala and Board Interest activities.
First off, on Monday the board will be hosting an Open Board Meeting (BM). Come by if you're interested in getting a more behind the scenes look at how being board works, especially regarding the more procedural things you wouldn't see or hear about usually. We'll provide some snacks so it's worth your time :)
Right after that, we'll be organizing a fun bowling session. While this is technically a board interest event, this is open to everyone! Please sign up even if you are not interested in a board year, as long as you're open to listen to us talk about it a little. We promise not to be too annoying ❤️
On Tuesday, DLCee will be organizing a Beerio Kart tournament. This is a fairly standard Mario Kart tournament, but with a twist: you have to finish a beer (or other beverage of your choice) before you cross the finish line! Naturally, we take road safety very seriously at Cover, so there will be no drinking and driving. You may only drink while you are standing still -- drinking then driving is allowed. Naturally, drinks will be provided free of charge if you play in the tournament. Cheers and bonne chance!
Thursday is a packed day. Since it's Pi Day, we will be organizing some festivities for this occasion in collaboration with lecturer Juan Cartagena, who has been kind enough to involve us in his plans. IlluminaTee will hosting a day of events including talks about the nature and uses of pi, a practical about how to compute pi, and a fun competition to memorize the most digits of pi. There will also be a pie tasting at lunch, so don't miss it!
Right afterwards, the perhaps most important event of the year will take place at Magoya and News Cafe: The Gala! Since Cover turned 30 this year, it's also a Lustrum Gala (every five years). This means we'll be enjoying a nice dinner at Magoya before having drinks and dancing at News Cafe. Don't miss getting your tickets—especially the dinner is selling out fast! Feel free to take your non-member friends along too, everyone is welcome. They'll just have to pay a little premium—coincidentally the exact same cost of just becoming a member, so they should really just register with us.
That's all for the upcoming week. Don't forget that the AI Master's Fair is coming up soon on Monday the 18th, make sure to sign up for that if you are interested in doing a Master's in AI in the Netherlands.
Alright, now I think this is the actual last time you'll hear from me in a while—Tabea is coming back next week (for real this time).
With educational greetings,
Richard :)
We want you to be in a committee!
⚠️ Here is a cool thingy for our new members: Ever heard of a committee? A committee is a group of friends that work towards a common goal. You can learn about all sorts of topics such as budgeting, planning, sponsoring, and much more! See the website for a complete overview of committees that are looking for members!
Is graphic design your passion? Have you at least heard of Photoshop before? Then PropaganDee is the committee for you! With so many events every week, there's a very high demand for posters, instagram posts, and other promotional material. This is the responsibility of PropaganDee—other committees reach out to them to promote their activities.
Are you a smart cookie? Do you want to get to know your lecturers and faculty a little better? Join IlluminaTee! IlluminaTee is responsible for Cover's educational exploits that are outside the boring stuff you learn in lectures. This means it has quite some freedom in what it organizes, and has done study trips to other cities in the Netherlands, a chess tournament and accompanying chessbot competition, and bootcamps in the past. If this sounds like your kind of thing, shoot our intern an email!
Are you interested in joining a committee? Don't hesitate to contact Luca, our Commissioner of Internal Affairs!
